Cotes de Bourg is an appellation which lies on the right bank of the Bordeaux wine region producing primarily red wine based on the Merlot grape. The appellation covers wines made in the area around the town of Bourg, located 12 miles north-west of Bordeaux city. Founded by the Romans in the 2nd century AD, it is one of the oldest wine producing regions in France and the first Vitis Biturica vines were planted here, the ancestors of todays Cabernet.
